PUT DOWN THE DAMN PHONES

Posted July 27th, 2007 by weskid

A couple of days ago there was a head on collision on a main highway about an hour away from here. It is a road I travel at least once or twice a month. It happened during the day. I was on that road earlier in the day. The weather was not a factor. Someone using their cell phone to either call or text was. They swerved into the other lane. Now both drivers are dead and others injured. Innocent people just going about their day. It could have been me. It could have been you. Yes, I have driven and talked on the cell phone and am alarmed when I realize I don’t know how I got from point A to point B as I don’t remember passing the landmarks. I don’t remember if the light was green or red. I always hope ingrained info will make me stop. I am no longer calling on my cell phone in the car unless I am a passenger. LIVES ARE OVER PEOPLE because someone thought they had to be on the phone. Texting is the worse as you absolutely have to take your eyes off the road. This is insane. There are already enough problems with drivers on the road without adding this. Long before cell phones and texting we managed to live our lives and get where we needed to go without a problem. PUT DOWN THE DAMN PHONES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. If I die, innocently, because someone was not paying attention while driving and using a cell phone, I will know this, and I will haunt people the rest of their lives. And don’t think I don’t mean it.

I am SO guilty of driving and talking. I will stop.

Sherry, you are a hoot and a half, and I promise I will be more careful from now on!
