YOU KNOW YOU LIVE IN THE COUNTRY.…

Today my top priority is getting out the posters for the upcoming “Feather Party” at our local Legion. Every year I wonder at the “title” for this little get together but apparently it is the thing to do as a fund raiser around here for all the local legion posts. Since some are closer than others, I wonder how much they raise, or if it is really just a chance to get out of the house the week of Thanksgiving.
Just so you know, there are no “feathers” given away, it is not some secret “wherever your mind might go” party, it is a get together where a light meal is served, raffle tickets are sold ahead of time for beef and pork certificates (where are the feathers there, might you ask???) and they play bingo for turkeys and ties for bacon (no feathers here either). Basically, from what I gather, since I am not a member of the legion nor the “good old boys club” (are you listening SP?) it is to give away turkeys for thanksgiving. Now I don’t know about you folks, but as the grocery shopper in this family, I would have my turkey well before next Tuesday when the actual party is, but hey, if the guys need an excuse to party, let them party I say. You can always make the turkey for Christmas. When I questioned my husband, the legion commander, on the possible turnout since the town only 3 miles away from ours is having their feather party 3 days before his, he seemed to think there might be “feather party” hoppers…those with little else to do on cold November days then attend all the feather parties in a several mile radius. I hate to say it, but I think it gets worse as winter looms and farmers, who are normally busy every minute of every day, look for ways to pass the time. Yessiree…sounds like a whole lot of fun to me!!! And no, I won’t be attending. The Legion commander and his family are not allowed to win a turkey, bacon etc. Ah, the pain of leadership.
Well off to do my civic duty…in case you are interested…the legion, next Tuesday, 7pm …any town in rural america.….…..
